Events & Courses
The Coppice Group run a number of courses covering all manner of useful and interesting skills,
from making Charcoal to Hurdles, Carving to Blacksmithing. These course, open to
all members, are offered at only the cost of the materials used i.e. incredibly
little, so make the most of them.
Those currently planned for the 2007 - 2008 season are
as follows: Blacksmithing: a day in the
workshop with Mick Stanton. Participants will make a small sparhook and learn
the basic techniques of forging edged tools. 5 places only so book early!
Tool Sharpening: Learn the correct sharpening
techniques essential for the care of old metals with Alan Waters. Anyone in the
woodland world can benefit from sharpening their sharpening skills!
Build your own Shave Horse: a hugely useful piece of
woodland equipment built to traditional design and built to last, with Pete
Ball.
Hurdle Making: learn from one of the accepted
experts the techniques and tricks of the trade from Andrew King. He makes the
difficult look easy; find out how! Buchan Country Park, nr Crawley.
Roundhouse Building: Philip Hardy demonstrates the
basic techniques and reveals some of the history of these beautiful and
fascinating structures. Try your hand at wattle and daub and thatching. Bush
Copse nr Horsham. Coracle Making: Almost as
much fun as using a coracle is making your own. Let Philip Hardy show you how.
3-4 places only.
We may also be lucky enough to get Richie Hobbs to put on
another training day - given that his Bentwood Rustic Armchair course was so
popular he had to run it 3 times by popular demand - this is one to watch out
for!
Why not learn from people who have many years of practical
experience and help spread the knowledge and keep these skills alive?
